(Peru, Neb.) – For the second day in a row, the Peru State softball split a double header in Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) North Division play.
 
The Bobcats took game one 1-0, the identical score to which they won on Friday, over Culver-Stockton in Canton, Mo., on Saturday. The Wildcats won the second game 3-2 for the split.
 
Peru State is now 11-11 on the year and is 5-2 in the Heart North. Culver-Stockton is 3-9 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
 
Game One Action
 
It definitely was a pitcher's duel in game one.


 
Peru State scored the only run of the game in the top of the third. Payton Beckman(Syracuse) reached on an error but was forced out when Brooklyn Franco (Syracuse, Utah) reached on a fielder's choice. After the second out, Alyiah Franco (Syracuse, Utah) doubled to center field to drive home her sister to make it 1-0. The Bobcats would end up leaving two on base, but fortunately they did not need any more runs.
 
The Bobcats scored their lone run on two this and did not commit any errors. Culver-Stockton had just two hits and committed two errors.
 
Alyiah Franco and Tyler Farrell (Brandon, Fla.) each had one hit in the game with Franco being credited with the RBI.
 
Alana Krieser (Lincoln) threw her second-straight shutout for her seventh win of the season. Krieser gave up just two hits and struck out five.

Game Two Action
 
It was another pretty good pitching effort by both teams in the second game.
 
Culver-Stockton would score two in the bottom of the third and added one more in the bottom of the fifth to lead 3-0. 

 
In the top of the sixth, the Bobcats would get on the scoreboard. After two outs, Alyiah Franco singled to shortstop. Morgan Wilke (Bakersfield, Calif.) followed with a home run to center field to cut the score to 3-2. Unfortunately for Peru State, they could not score any more in the game.
 
The Wildcats scored their three runs on four hits and had one error. Peru State scored their two runs on three hits and also had one error.
 
Alyiah Franco led the team with two hits while Wilke was credited with two RBI.
 
Layla Worthington (Holladay, Utah) started on the mound for the Bobcats and was tagged for the loss. Worthington tossed four innings and allowed two hits, two earned runs, and struck out two. Cheyenne Leach (Wymore) threw two innings and allowed two hits, one earned run, and struck out two.]

Peru State will be back in action, Mother Nature permitting, on Tuesday when they travel to Des Moines to face Grand View in a double header beginning at 2 p.m. The Vikings have started the season with a 10-6 mark and are 4-0 in the Heart North.
 
On Friday, the Bobcats will host a non-conference double header beginning at 1 p.m. against Northwestern. The Red Raiders are 14-6 on the season.
 
The 'Cats will end the week on the road when they travel to take on Central Methodist in Fayette, Mo., on Sunday, March 28. In the first poll of the spring, the Eagles are ranked ninth in the NAIA with a 16-1 record and are 2-0 in conference play.
