Former Sarpy County coach faces felony charge related to student

PAPILLION, Neb. -- A Papillion-La Vista South High School coach who resigned in February for "personal reasons" is now facing a felony charge of sexual abuse of a student.
An arrest warrant was issued by the Sarpy County Court for Stephen Gentry on Wednesday. He faces a charge of third-degree sexual abuse by a school employee relating to a report made in January.
The Papillion-La Vista School District says a note went out to students and athletes about the coach's departure.
Gentry taught social studies and coached football at the school. He had been an employee there for three years.
The case represents the first time the new Nebraska statute on inappropriate relationships between school employees and students has been applied.
If convicted, Gentry could face up to two years in prison.
Gentry appeared in court Thursday morning. He was given a $10,000/10% bond with the provision that he is not to have contact with any minor children outside of his household.
