LINCOLN, Neb. - In 2020, 8.4 million Americans bought a firearm, and 40 percent of those buyers were female. The Nebraska Game and Parks is responding to the increase with more recognition and education. 

During Women's History Month, the Game and Parks is showcasing women at the range.

"Our She Owns the Range program that we've just initiated this month is designed to provide women with not just a safe environment but a fun environment," Game and Parks Superintendent Heather Donahoe said.

Donahoe says it can be intimidating coming in without a lot of experience. To help women in the process, it's offering outlets for females like its "Becoming an Outdoors Woman" program, where Donahoe said she started out.
