Minor Flooding to result from heavy weekend rainfall

Mostly lowland flooding expected in Big Blue River basin

BEATRICE - River and streams in southern Nebraska are running at elevated levels, following weekend rain that ranged from two to five inches in several locations.

A flood warning was issued for the Big Blue River at Crete through late Wednesday morning and for the Big Blue at Beatrice, as late as Saturday morning.  A flood warning was also issued for Turkey Creek near Wilber and DeWitt. 

National Weather Service hydrologists expect mainly minor lowland flooding from heavy rain and runoff.

The Big Blue River at Crete is expected to crest about one-point-six feet above the 21-foot flood stage.   At Beatrice, the river is forecast to crest one-point-six feet above the 18-foot flood stage.

Flooding along the Big Blue will also affect Marshall County in northeast Kansas…forecast to crest almost three feet above the 26-foot flood stage at Blue Rapids.
