Colorado State seeded No. 1 in 16-team NIT
Colorado State, Saint Louis, Memphis and Ole Miss are the No. 1 seeds for the National Invitation Tournament.
The coronavirus pandemic reduced the field to 16 teams from the usual 32, and all games are set for Frisco and Denton, Texas. First-round games will be played March 17-20.
The move will take the semifinals and championship game out of Madison Square Garden for the first time in the 83-year history of college basketball’s oldest postseason tournament. The NIT champion has been crowned in New York City every year since the tournament started in 1938.
NCAA field missing mainstays Duke, Kentucky and Louisville
Duke, Kentucky and Louisville are NCAA Tournament regulars. Not this year though.
The Blue Devils, Wildcats and Cardinals were left out in the cold when the March Madness brackets were unveiled on Sunday. It is the first time since 1976 all three schools missed the tournament in the same year.
Of the three, Louisville had the best chance after Kentucky had its first losing season in 32 years and Duke had to withdraw from the ACC Tournament due to a positive COVID-19 test. B
ut the Cardinals were one of the first four teams not to make the 68-team field.
