Auburn Wins in 2OT to Advance to C1 Championship

LINCOLN- In a low scoring game against four-seeded Omaha Concordia, the Bulldogs quest for a three-peat was met with some pushback from the Mustangs.
After being tied up 7-7 through one quarter of play, everyone at Pinnacle Bank Arena got settled into their seats to watch some stellar defensive play throughout the rest of the game. Both teams did not disappoint.
Auburn took the lid off the basket in the second quarter and went on a 10-0 run after trailing 9-7 early into the second quarter. The bulldogs relied on senior Daniel Frary and junior Ryan Binder to carry the load offensively for the Bulldogs. Senior Cam Binder was met with a double team nearly every time he touched the ball. Auburn led at the break 19-13.
The second half was back and forth all game long. The Mustangs grabbed some momentum into the third quarter and even took the lead by a slim two points. As the final buzzer in regulation sounded, however, more basketball was needed to see who was going to move on to the C1 championship.
Both teams were under 30 points through regulation, 29-29, and the trend continued in the first overtime period. The Bulldogs once again called on Ryan Binder and the junior answered. Binder had the only four points for the bulldogs in the first overtime period. The bad news for Auburn is that on the other end of the floor they let up the same.
Cam Binder had a shot at the end of the first overtime period, and was short on the shot. Frary grabbed the rebound with 1.5 seconds remaining in overtime, and threw up a quick shot. The shot rolled around the rim before falling out. Double overtime was needed in Lincoln.
The double overtime period started off well for the Bulldogs, Cam Binder had an and-one inside the lane and converted to put Auburn up by three. Ryan Binder would keep the game at three at the line after the Mustangs answered on their next possession.
Frary would end up playing hero ball for the Bulldogs at Pinnacle Bank Arena as the senior banked in the first free throw to put Auburn up two points 39-37. Frary would play defense on the other side of the court to seal the deal as Auburn hung on to win 39-37 in double overtime.
The Bulldogs move into the C1 state championship, a place they are familiar with, behind Ryan Binder's 13 points. Cam Binder finished with 11 points, Frary with 9 points.
The Auburn Bulldogs are eyeing a three-peat as C1 state champions and will await the other side of the semifinals as seven-seeded Wayne plays three-seeded Adams Central.
