Officials Say Low Humidity and Wind Help Spread Stanton County Grass Fire
Officials say weather conditions helped spread a grass fire in Stanton County Monday evening.
STANTON COUNTY - Officials say weather conditions helped spread a grass fire in northeast Nebraska Monday evening.
Stanton County Emergency Management officials say Pilger Fire was called to a field fire North of Highway 275 on 573 Avenue around 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
Stanton Fire was also called for mutual aid.
Both departments were able to bring the fire under control within an hour and saved the surrounding structures.
Emergency Management officials say no one was home at the time of the fire and was reported by a passerby.
With a mixture of low humidity, warmer weather conditions, and wind gusts, the fire spread to a nearby CRP field but was quickly contained.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Officials say Stanton and surrounding counties have been closely watching the fire index due to these conditions.
According to area fire departments, burning outside right now is not advised until conditions improve, or until this area gets more moisture.
