WAYNE, Neb. -- Three Wayne State College track and field athletes have qualified for the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships in the weight throw. The three athletes will compete at the event March 11 in Birmingham, Alabama.

Mckenzie Scheil, a junior from Fairmont (Fillmore Central HS), has the top mark in NCAA Division II during the regular season entering the national championships after winning the weight throw at last weekend’s NSIC Indoor Championships in Mankato, Minnesota with a new school record mark of 67’ 9 ¾”. It is the third straight season she has qualified for the national women's meet.

On the men's side, Cade Kalkowski and Cole Christoffersen also qualified, with Kalkowski also making his third appearance.

Kalkowski, a senior from Niobrara (Niobrara HS), ranks fourth in NCAA Division II with a provisional qualifying mark of 67’ 11 1/2” that took place on January 23rd at the Dakota Reality Invite in South Dakota. He earned All-NSIC honors in the weight throw last weekend at the NSIC Indoor Championships with a throw of 66’ 2 ½”.  

Christoffersen, a senior from Lyons (Lyons-Decatur Northeast HS), will make his first national indoor meet appearance after throwing a season-best mark of 63’ 9 ¾” at last weekend’s NSIC Indoor Championships. He is ranked 14th in NCAA Division II.
