columbus -- GIFTS TO HELP MAKE UP FOR A MISSED EVENT.

Organizers of the Columbus Area Night to Shine cancelled its drive-through light show because of the freezing weather. In a last-minute scramble, they were able to put together hundreds of gift bags.

They were handed out Thursday afternoon to would-be guests, filled with food, toys, and a special invitation to a virtual show.

Organizers say the gifts helped ease a bit of a disappointment for those looking forward to the big night.

"Some people actually were in tears because they couldn't go to the event tonight," "But when they came in here and were able to get their bag, take their crowns and tiaras, and get some pictures done, everyone left here in pretty good spirit."

Night to Shine is a nationwide prom night dance event for those with special needs, rolling out the red carpet and giving them the hollywood treatment.

Organizers say they are considering a date in April to bring their guests back into the spotlight.
