An employee in the Nebraska prison system is facing charges.

The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services said Wednesday that 28-year-old Casey Bartels was arrested Tuesday for unauthorized communication with a prisoner.

She was a corporal at the Lincoln Correctional Center. Bartels has been employed by NDCS since October of 2020.

Bartels is the second NDCS employee accused of inappropriate contact in the past week. Xavier Palomares, 24, resigned and was arrested in Lincoln on Saturday.
