BAYARD, NE — The Bayard High School basketball teams are facing game cancellations with subdistrict play right around the corner.

Wednesday night, Bayard High School announced the boys and girls basketball games against Kimball on Thursday, Feb. 11, have been canceled. The girls basketball game versus Minatare on Friday, Feb. 12, will also not be played. The boys basketball team will still play at Minatare on Friday at 5:30 p.m. All canceled basketball games were scheduled as away contests for Bayard.

According to a statement from Kimball Public Schools, the cancellations for Thursday's contests were made due to COVID-19 issues at Bayard.

The cancellations come days before girls basketball teams across Nebraska will begin postseason play. Girls subdistrict games are scheduled to begin Monday, Feb. 15, in some parts of the state, including the C2-12 subdistrict which includes Bayard. Boys basketball subdistrict games begin the following week.
