The Sioux County defense held in overtime to boost the Warriors to a 49-43 victory Tuesday night.
The Warriors are now 2-1 over the Rams this year as regular season action concludes and are 12-6 overall. Sioux County took charge early with a 14-5 lead in the first quarter, but a dismal second period gave the Rams an opportunity to stay in the contest. Crawford outscored Sioux County 8-5 in the second quarter to make it 19-13 at the break.
The Rams used the shift in momentum to close in on the Warriors during the third quarter, and they took a 26-24 lead with three minutes left. Their lead was short lived, as the Warriors tied the score at 26 less than a minute later with free throws by Britney Klein. Crawford’s Natalie Barry and Sioux County’s Karlee Juhnke contributed answering buckets to tie it at 28 with a minute and a half left in the quarter. Rachel Krein added two for the Warriors before the period ended, but Barry netted a trey to give the Rams a 31-30 advantage as the final period began.
Free throws by Beth Klein and Juhnke, and a baseline drive by Kodie Rempp, kept the Warriors in striking distance, and they took the lead 37-36 when Rempp hit a trey with just over two minutes remaining. The Warriors followed that with five free throws by Juhnke, Kailey Klein and Rempp for a six-point lead with a minute of action to go.
Back-to-back three-pointers by Crawford’s Barry and Kylah Vogel tied the game at 42 with seven seconds on the clock. The Warriors hustled down court, and Rempp’s buzzer beater trey bounced in and back out to send the game to overtime.
The extra four minutes of action belonged to the Warriors, with field goals by Juhnke and K. Klein and free throws by R. Krein and Rempp. The Rams scored just three points in OT, a field goal by Barry and a free throw by Hadlee Rudloff.
Sioux County was 19 of 27 at the charity stripe, while the Rams hit 13 of 18. Juhnke led the Warriors with 14 points, and Barry scored 22 for the Rams.

Big second quarter gives Rams win
The Crawford Rams used an explosive second quarter to come from behind and earn a 46-33 victory over the Sioux County Warriors Tuesday.
Sioux County, who has yet to win a contest this year, opened with an 11-4 lead after the first period. The Rams, however, quickly turned things around in the second quarter with a 25-9 run, including 10 points by Hays Frahm. Those eight minutes were enough to keep the game out of reach for Sioux County even as the pace slowed in the second half.
Crawford added 10 points in the third and capped the game with another seven, while Sioux County added 13 points in the entire second half. Frahm led the Rams with 22 points, and Roman Metz added 10. Sioux County’s Cy Hughson, in his second game back after an injury sidelined him for most of 2021, scored 17 for the Warriors. Sam Skavdahl had 11 for the Warriors.
