(Peru, Neb.) – The Peru State men's bowling team gained some valuable experience this past weekend as they competed with some of the "big boys" of collegiate bowling in the Mid States Championships held in Wichita, Kan.
 
The Bobcats participated against teams from all levels of the NCAA, NAIA, and NJCAA which included NCAA Division 1 Wichita State who is perennially one of the best teams in the NCAA.
 
Ironically, Wichita State won the tournament with a two-day total of 8,274 pins. The championship consisted of five individual games on Saturday and then finished with 16 Baker-style games on Sunday.
  

Finishing second behind Wichita State was St. Ambrose (Iowa) with a total of 7,794. In third was NCAA DII Newman (Kan.) who had a 7,650 pin total.
 
The other placings included: fourth – Midland – 7,600; fifth – Kansas Wesleyan – 7,484; sixth – Oklahoma Christian – 7,402; seventh – Iowa Central Community College – 7,257; eighth – Ottawa (Kan.) – 7,085; ninth – Iowa Western Community College – 6,978; tenth – Drury (Mo.) – 6,930; 11th – Baker (Kan.) – 6,892; 12th – Barton (Kan.) Community College – 6,749; 13th – Central Missouri – 6,744; 14th – Lincoln (Mo.) – 6,508; 15th – Kansas – 6,223; 16th – Dallas Baptist – 5,590; and 17th – Peru State – 5,394.
 
There were 167 bowlers competing. Peru State was led by freshman Alexxander Uecker (Hastings) who finished 75th with a total of 732. Uecker rolled games of 138, 110, 163, 174, and 147.
 
Mason Clobes (Seward) was 79th with a pin total of 707. Clobes had games of 164, 125, 158, 126, and 134.
 
Gavin Maas (Shenandoah, Iowa) was 84th while finishing with a total of 692. Maas bowled games of 124, 106, 181, 133, and 148.
 
Alex Chmelka (Lincoln) finished 101st with a pin total of 562 in four games. Chmelka rolled games of 122, 193, 129, and 118.
 
Michael Anderson (Cairo) rolled four games and was 113th with a total of 465. Anderson had games of 104, 130, 101, and 130.


 
Austin Guhde-Egger (Auburn) finished 145th as he competed in two games and finished with a total of 235. Guhde-Egger had games of 127 and 108.
 
Upcoming Tournaments
 
The Bobcats will have this week off before competing in two one-day tournaments the following two weekends.
 
On Saturday, Feb. 20, the Bobcats will be in Indianapolis, Ind., to participate in the Hoosier Classic held at the Royal Pin – Western.

The following week, Peru State will be in at the Cedar Rapids Bowl in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, participating in the Kohawk Invitational.
