KEARNY, Neb. -- At special emergency meeting this week, the Kearney City Council will consider dropping the city’s mandatory mask requirement.

The city passed the mask mandate in November. Since then, according to city documents, the city physician has reported steadily decreasing numbers of COVID-19 cases in the community.

The emergency ordinance, drafted at the request of city councilman Randy Buschkoetter, will be the lone item on the agenda of a special council meeting Tuesday afternoon at 4:30 PM.

If passed, the requirement that people wear masks indoors in Kearney buildings would end as of Thursday, Feb 11.
