NORFOLK, Neb. - Although northeast Nebraska is expected to get 2-to-3 inches of snow over the weekend, road crews are still preparing for the winter weather.

Nebraska State Troopers are encouraging people to drive with caution.

"With the little bit of snow we're supposed to be getting, sounds like less than a couple of inches, however, a couple of inches is enough," said NSP Trooper Tyler Kudera. "Especially when the wind is blowing to drift across the roadways. Then when vehicles drive across it, it causes icy conditions."

Kudera said to avoid using cruise control and to keep a safe distance between vehicles on the road.

"Just give yourself time," Kudera said. "Go slow if you need to. Don't overdrive the conditions, or your abilities, or the vehicle's capabilities too."

The Norfolk Street Division is also stepping in to help.

"Our salt brine trucks are all loaded," Street Maintenance Supervisor Jason Hansen said. "Our grave trucks are ready to go. Plows have been put o the trucks that are available."

Though the snow can be dangerous, it isn't Hansen's main concern.

"The wind chill is going to make the road's surface a lot colder," Hansen said. "Which we'll have to add some beet juice to our salt brine to make that stuff work a little bit better and last a little bit longer."

Temperatures will be in the single digits throughout the weekend, with a high of seven degrees on Sunday.
