BEATRICE – It’s been a battle today, but a winter storm should be moved out of southeast Nebraska by early Tuesday morning. Beatrice City Street snowplow crews have been working all day trying to keep roads passable.

"I called the guys out at about four o'clock this morning just because it was starting to build up a little bit....a fine snow. I wanted to make sure that we were at least out before the morning commute came in, for what businesses we're going to be open."

Beatrice Street Superintendent Jason Moore says what began as a straight-down, light snow early…gained intensity by mid-morning.

"We've got low visibility. Right now, we really don't have the wind that they were forecasting and I'm hoping it stays that way. From everything I'm being told from now to about six o'clock (pm) we're looking to have fairly heavy snow."

Seven snowplow trucks, two road graders and two loaders with plows have been working Beatrice city streets. City Street Department crew members were getting an assist from water department employees in operating snow clearing machines.

Moore says this storm may end up being the biggest one the Beatrice area has seen for the past several years. Southeast Nebraska is in a winter storm warning through three a.m., Tuesday.
