Metro braces for winter weather
Like the rest of the state, the Lincoln and Omaha metro areas are gearing up for more winter weather.

OMAHA, Neb. -- Like the rest of the state, the Lincoln and Omaha metro areas are gearing up for more winter weather.
A winter storm warning has been issued for much of the southern half of the state, with a winter weather advisory scattered across the rest of Nebraska. The weather alerts are in effect until 3:00 a.m. Tuesday. Heavy snow is expected with up to a foot possible in parts of the state, including up to 5-12 inches in the southern half of the state.
There is expected to be a brief period of freezing drizzle before snow begins early Monday morning. The heaviest snowfall will occur during the daytime on Monday, gradually diminishing Monday evening and overnight. Winds are expected to be 10 to 20 miles per hour with gusts up to 30 miles per hour, leading to some blowing and drifting snow.
The Nebraska State Patrol and the Nebraska Department of Transportation are both advising drivers to stay off the roadways if possible.
