Peru State Dance Team Competes for First Time Ever

(Peru, Neb.) – Peru State history was made Friday night in Crete as the Bobcat Dance Team competed for the first time in the Doane Invitational.
The Bobcats finished fourth and scored 51.6 points in their first performance.
Hastings won the competition with a score of 67.40 while Viterbo (Wis.) finished second with a total of 67.20. The hosts were third with a score of 66.33.
Peru State did have a deduction due to not having a minimal number of dancers as they were impacted by COVID-19.
In dance team scoring, there are many categories for judging which includes jazz technique, pom technique, hip hop technique, and team turn sequence. In addition, the three judges also rate the team on staging, transitions, musicality, choreography, technical skills/execution, performance impression, overall degree of difficulty, team turn, and team leap.
The Bobcats scored their highest in jazz technique and in choreography.
Peru State coach Noah Roddy was pleased with his team's first performance. Roddy commented, "I think our performance last night was the best we had all season because you could see the dancers really having fun on the floor. I can't wait to get back to practice to implement the judges' critiques into the routine."
Next Competition
Peru State will next compete in the Concordia Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 6, in Seward.
