BRIDGEPORT, NE — The top seeds took home the championships of the Minuteman Activities Conference tournament Saturday night in Bridgeport. 

In the girl's championship match, South Platte fought out of an early deficit against Bayard. 

The Lady Tigers roared out to a 10-0 lead early in the first quarter against the South Platte Lady Knights. After a timeout by head coach Andie Cheleen, South Platte fought back to make it 14-12 after one. 

Bayard maintained its two-point advantage against the Blue Knights in quarter two. Both teams scored nine points in the period. Foul trouble cost Bayard as all of South Platte's points in the quarter came at the free throw line. 

Bayard lead at the break 23-21. 

The Tigers expanded the lead in quarter three to 27-22 and then the top-seeded South Platte took over. The Knights outscored Bayard 10-3 in the rest of the frame and took its first lead of the game late in the third at 29-27. 

South Platte put the game away in the fourth quarter, outscoring Bayard 14-3 in the final period to win 46-33. Overall, the Knights outscored the Tigers 25-10 in the second half. 

South Platte's senior Autumn Dickmander lead all scorers with 24 points. Madison Cheleen had seven points off the bench for the Lady Knights. 

Bayard had two players in double digits: senior Grace Burry scored 12 while freshman Lexi Fiscus had 11. 

The Lady Tigers' aggressive defense lead to plenty of fouls and free throw opportunities for South Platte. The Knights hit 16 of 26 free throws while Bayard went 0-7 from the line. 

South Platte improves to 13-1 on the year. Bayard falls to 9-6.

The boy's championship also featured Bayard as the Tigers took on the Potter-Dix Coyotes. 

It was the Coyotes that got out to the hot start, hitting four threes in the opening-period to take a 16-5 lead into quarter two. Bayard chipped away in the second frame, getting seven points from Junior Garret Hopkins to make the deficit nine at the break. 

Potter-Dix lead 26-17 at halftime. 

The Tigers' defense came out strong in quarter three, holding the Coyotes to five points in the period, including just one field goal. Unfortunately for Bayard, they couldn't capitalize, scoring only six points themselves in quarter three. The Coyotes took a 31-23 lead into the final period. 

Potter-Dix then slammed the door shut in the fourth quarter. The Coyotes started the period on an 11-0 run to take a 42-23 advantage. Potter-Dix lead by as many as 19 in the quarter en route to a 49-32 victory. 

The Coyotes' Javon Coyle lead all scorers with 19 points while sophomore Luke Kasten 14 points.

Hopkins paced Bayard with 14 points. 

With the win, Potter-Dix improves to 10-3 on the season. Bayard is now 9-6.
