In the aftermath of comments she made to News Channel Nebraska regarding President Donald Trump’s role in the Capitol riots, Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert is changing course.

On Thursday, Stothert spoke with NCN's Joe Jordan.

NCN: Mayor, does the President share the blame for what took place yesterday (Wednesday) on Capitol Hill.

STOTHERT: You know I think from what I have seen and what I have read, it appears that there was a lot going out on social media that could have incited what went on. I don't have all the facts. I don't have all the data.

Stothert has since issued the following statement:

"Yes, the president does bear some of the responsibility for what happened, as do those who broke into the Capitol building and caused the damage. It started as a Trump rally, he told them to march to the Capitol, he promoted and encouraged it, and even at the rally his attorney Rudy Giuliani advocated what he called, 'trial by combat," so yes he bears some responsibility, as do others, and we will no doubt learn more about what was said both publicly and privately."

Stothert was widely criticized for her initial comment.

State Senator Michaela Cavanaugh tweeted that Stothert was not fit for office.
