Late scoring surge leads Wakefield to victory
WAKEFIELD - It took a while for shots to start falling. But when they did, Wakefield was able to turn away upset-minded Stanton, 55-36 on Friday.
The Trojans missed their first 15 three-point shots, but Jordan Metzler connected on back-to-back triples late in the third quarter that began a run that carried over into the fourth quarter.
Stanton started slowly, but rattled off a 13-0 run in the 2nd quarter that tied the game at 18. The Mustangs would eventually take a two-point lead late in the first half, but Wakefield's defense clamped down in the second half, holding the Mustangs to just 14 points on 6-of-19 shooting.
Stanton lost despite a 38-21 edge on the glass.
The win is Wakefield's fourth straight after a season-opening one-point loss to Pender, while Stanton has lost four in a row.
