BEATRICE - A delicate maneuver through a part of west Beatrice, Thursday morning...

A semi-trailer truck hauling a house on a flatbed had to negotiate power lines and signs, in west Beatrice Thursday morning.
With the help of utility crew members and others, the truck and house were snaking their way past Sherman and West Mary Streets during the morning, next to KWBE radio station.

"We're just going down about one more block and will stop on the north side...and hopefully get it set today. If not, we'll finish it in the morning."

Tim Tieken, with Tieken House Moving…said the house came out of Cordova, Nebraska….and the truck hauling it made a turn off U.S. Highway 136 to travel south, then east onto Mary Street to its new home.

"If we didn't have lines, we could be there start to finish, in about five minutes, but the lines kind of kill us."

Three different utility companies were adjusting the height of utility lines, providing some clearance as the truck hauling the home moved along. It reached its destination at about mid-morning, a vacant lot off the north side of West Mary Street in the seven hundred block.

The lot was purchased by Marvin and Lisa Goosen in the City of Beatrice Mow-to-Own program, where private owners can acquire city-owned land over time, if they agree to maintain it or build on it.  Community Development Officer Rob Mierau says its the third house moving permit approved by his department, in the last three months.
