Frontline workers at Great Plains receive COVID vaccine

Around 400 frontline workers have been given the COVID-19 vaccine at Great Plains Health.

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - Around 400 frontline workers have been given the COVID-19 vaccine at Great Plains Health. Great Plains Health received 975 doses that are gradually being administered to those most vulnerable and the hope of keeping patients and families safe.

“It’s happening now; it’s happening at Great Plains Health and I am excited to participate in it,” said Director of Cardiopulmonary, Elesha Pueppka.

“This vaccine will give me some peace of mind with fighting this every day and seeing what it does to people. This is an important vaccine; it’s important to the people of the country, it’s important to healthcare, it’s important to you,” said Emergency Room Charge Nurse, Mel Pendleton.

Pharmacy Director Jason North says this is a historical moment.

“I truly recognize our heroes, our frontline workers who touch COVID patients who are receiving this vaccine now. It not only protects them it protects their families, their loved ones they go home to,” said North.

Medical Director for the Emergency Department, Dr. Jim Smith, is encouraging the general public to strongly consider receiving the vaccine when it is available to them.

“I just implore you please, please to get the vaccination if not only for yourself, for one of the high risk people that are out there,” said Smith.

Frontline workers are receiving a necessary second dose in January.
