Southern sweeps Deshler in girls/boys hoops

Girls: Southern 56 Deshler 31
The Southern Raiders went off for 34 points in the first half and coasted to a 56-31 win over Deshler on Saturday.
The game was tied at 7-7 midway through the first quarter before Southern (4-0) seized control with a 17-0 run. The Raiders held Deshler (0-4) to just 13 points in the first half and led by 21 at the break.
The Dragons outscored the Raiders 13-11 in the third quarter but it wasn’t enough to make it close in the fourth.
Both teams had seven different players score. Leading scorer Paiton Nash did not play for Deshler.

Carson Borzekofski scored 25 points and the Southern Raiders toppled the Deshler Dragons 51-35 on Saturday.
Deshler (3-1) played without head coach Josh Nash and starting point guard Gavin Nash.
Southern (2-2) immediately targeted Deshler’s guards with an aggressive 1-3-1 zone defense. Turnovers helped spark an early 9-0 run that gave the Raiders an 11-2 advantage.
Borzekofski played the top of the zone and was the primary cause of the early giveaways. He parlayed the turnovers into 16 first-half points. The Dragons settled in during the second quarter and used a pair of Cayden Loomis three-pointers to keep it close. Southern led 25-17 at half.
The Raiders went on another run to open the second half and put the game away. Southern started the third quarter with a two three-balls from Brock Adams and one from Borzekofski. They erupted for a 13-0 run and didn’t allow Deshler to score until the 2:20 mark in the quarter.
Southern is off until Saturday when the Raiders play at HTRS. Deshler hosts Doniphan-Trumbull on Tuesday.
