Much of southern Nebraska is bracing for some winter weather today.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for 36 different counties through Saturday morning.

Forecasters say up to five inches of snow could fall in some parts of the state. The snow has already begun falling this morning in south-central Nebraska with state roads officials reporting hazardous travel in and around towns like Kearney, Gibbon and Holdrege.

The snow is expected to move into southeast Nebraska by this evening and taper off tomorrow morning.
