OMAHA, Neb. – An inmate at the Douglas County Department of Corrections has died. Daniel Walton, 23, was found unresponsive in his cell shortly before 10:00 p.m. Saturday when lifesaving efforts were made by corrections staff and continued by Omaha Fire Department members. Walton was transported to Nebraska Medicine, where he was pronounced dead.

DCDC Director Mike Myers confirmed the death on Sunday, offering his condolences to Walton’s family.

Per state law, a grand jury investigation is required and the DCDC will have no further comment until then.

Walton was booked into corrections Saturday at 7:09 p.m. on allegations of domestic violence assault, assault by strangulation, possession of an unregistered firearm and carrying a concealed weapon.
