Birkle and Duarte Earn Heart VB Recognition
The Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) announced their all-conference and award selections Tuesday.

(Peru, Neb.) – The Heart of America Athletic Conference (Heart) announced their all-conference and award selections Tuesday.
League newcomers Park (Mo.) captured many of the top awards including attacker of the year, setter of the year, player of the year, and coach of the year.
Peru State volleyball players Cheyenne Birkle (Holden, Mo.) and Jaddy Duarte (Brasilia, Brazil) were among those honored.
Birkle, a 5-7 junior libero, earned third team recognition while Duarte, a 6-1 middle hitter, was given honorable mention recognition.
Birkle played in all 60 sets of action during the season in which Peru State took the court. She had 263 digs in the COVID-19 shortened season which presently ranks 41st in the NAIA. Birkle averaged 4.38 digs per set. In addition, she had 21 assists, 15 service aces, and had a passing efficiency of 90.8%.
Against Mount Mercy, Birkle had a season-high 22 digs which came in three sets. She had three service aces on two different occasions – once against Baker (Kan.) and the other against Graceland (Iowa). Birkle finished fifth in the Heart with 263 digs while averaging 4.38 digs per set which was ninth at the end of the regular season.
Duarte played in 54 sets and finished with 84 kills while hitting .149. She finished with two assists, seven service aces, three solo blocks, and 21 block assists.
In Peru State's win over William Penn (Iowa), Duarte had a season-best 16 kills on 35 attempts. Her season high of blocks was four against Graceland.
The Bobcats finished the 2020 season with a 3-14 overall mark and were 2-10 in the Heart.
