It took over 18 bales, 50 paint cans, and hours of labor, but the 30 by 15-foot hay artwork won this small school a national title.

My brother is in the army, so I thought it would be a cool idea to represent the country." said student Abby Kerkman

The Neligh Oakdale High School FFA knew if they wanted their submission to the battle of the bales to stand out – they were going to need some help. The town was ready and willing to pitch in. The group got help from the local John Deere dealership, the local Bomgaars, and the local feedlots donating hay for the project. Everyone seemed to be pitching in. The epic hay bale art is located on Highway 275 at the Antelope county fairgrounds and those driving by wanted to cheer the students along.

When they see people driving by that are not even from around here honking their horns supporting them," said FFA Advisor Kensie Burnside.  "When they drive by and people are supporting and people are texting them good job texting hey that looks incredible The Neligh Oakdale FFA chapter is shown proudly here. That has been awesome to represent.

Their hard work paid off. The team won a thousand-dollars from Krone, a hay and forage equipment manufacturer. They also get bragging rights for the year. But the students we spoke to, say the ultimate prize was much sweeter than cash.

"Seeing the community support us on social media, and my kids asking me every day “DID WE WIN, DID WE WIN, that has been a lot of fun. " said Burnside
