KIMBALL, NE — And then there were two.

Monday, Kimball city officials interviewed the finalists for the town's city administrator position. The panel asked questions of Jonathan Cannon and Alan Lanning.

Cannon currently works for the city of Saluda, North Carolina. He has been there since April of 2014 and during his time there has worked as the town's zoning administrator, city administrator and city manager.

Saluda is in western North Carolina and is home to about 700 people. It is about 35 miles from Asheville, North Carolina.

Lanning most recently served as the city manager for Cordova, Alaska. He left the job in October 2019, after the town's city council decided not to renew his contract, according to the Cordova Times. He began his time in Alaska in 2016.

Lanning has worked similar positions in Lake City, Minnesota, Brookings, South Dakota and multiple cities in Colorado. He told the interview panel he has worked in local government for over 20 years.

The new round of candidate interviews comes about two months after Kimball Mayor Keith Prunty's initial choice, city treasurer Annette Brower, was rejected by the city council. The rejection led to a shakeup in the selection committee and new candidates being sought out.
