Northeast Nebraska students decorate downtown Norfolk

NORFOLK -- Although an annual Christmas celebration was canceled this year, the holiday decor remains the same.
Students from the Northeast Nebraska Community College are dressing up downtown Norfolk for the holidays. Something they've done for 15 years.
"We hang all the signs on the street, put the snowflakes in the middle of the islands, and light up the Christmas tree," said Kyle Voecks of the Northeast Utility Line Club. "It usually has a big turnout if it's a normal year."
Because of the pandemic, festivities set for late November won't be happening. But members of the Northeast Utility Line Club say the lights are still worth putting up.
"People will still drive by it and see them," said Derek Moore, a second-year student of the Utility Line Club. "It kind of gives them a sense of continuity from other years."
After around three hours of decorating, the lights are waiting to shine until the day after Thanksgiving.
