NEW RAYMER, CO — After a strong end to the first half, it looked like the Peetz Bulldogs could make their contest against the Prairie Mustangs competitive. Coming out for the second half, Peetz trailed 30-14, but a series of miscues set the stage for the Mustangs outscoring the Bulldogs 37-0 in the final two quarters and win 67-14.

The architect of Peetz's loss was Prairie sophomore running back Claytin Hove. He finished with six total touchdowns on the game — four rushing, one passing and one receiving — as well as an interception during the game. Hove accumulated 175 yards rushing on 13 carries, one completion for 55 yards and one reception for seven yards.

For Peetz, senior Aiden Curtis finished with 81 total yards and two touchdowns, including a 40 yard touchdown reception from fellow senior Nolan Hill.

Mustangs sophomore tight end Parker Jaeger had the lone score of the first quarter, a four-yard run to put the Mustangs up 6-0. In the second quarter, Prairie found the end zone twice with a touchdown pass from junior quarterback Andy Long to junior wideout David Speicher and Hove's first rushing TD of the night to put the Mustangs up 22-0.

A four-yard run by Curtis with under two minutes left in the first half put Peetz on the scoreboard, but the Bulldogs trailed 22-6. That deficit became 30-6 when Hove scored his second touchdown of the night after a failed onside kickoff attempt by Peetz. The Bulldogs got the ball back with under 30 seconds until halftime at midfield thanks to a good kickoff return by Hill. That's when Hill hit Curtis for a 40-yard touchdown pass to bring the score 30-14 at the half.

Things continued to look up for the Bulldogs entering the second half when they attempted another onside kick, this time successfully. Unfortunately, a drive that took eight plays and about half of the third quarter yielded no results when Curtis threw an interception inside the Mustangs' 10-yard line. Three plays later, Hove hit junior tight end Isaac Doll for a 55-yard score and it became 36-14.

The Bulldogs then fumbled their next offensive snap leading to another Prairie touchdown. The game continued to spiral out of hand when the Bulldogs couldn't get a handle on the ensuing squib kickoff and Prairie stole another possession that resulted in a touchdown.

In a matter of minutes, the game went from one that looked seconds away from becoming a one score game to 22 unanswered points for the Mustangs. At the end of the third quarter Prairie led 52-14. They would add on two more scores before the final whistle to win 67-14.

The Mustangs improve to 5-1 with the win. Peetz falls to 2-4. Although this was the end of the CHSAA regular season schedule, Peetz will play at least one more game. The Bulldogs will take on Arickaree Thursday at 6:00 p.m. in Peetz.
