NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - Two Grand Island teenagers accused in a 2018 murder in North Platte have pleaded no contest to reduced charges.

18-year old Jesus A. Martinez and 18-year old Brayden Turner took a plea for the September 14, 2018 murder of Ethan Pohlmeier.

Martinez and Turner were arrested in Grand Island on Oct. 12, 2018, after the North Platte Police Department received a tip from the Hall County Attorney’s Office.

Lincoln County District Court records show 18-year old Jesus A Martinez is convicted of 2nd degree murder and possession of a stolen firearm. Originally, he and accomplice, then 16-year old, Brayden Turner faced charges of 1st degree murder and use of a firearm to commit a felony.

Records show Turner, now 18, pleaded no contest to robbery.

Court records say Pohlmeier was attempting to sell an ounce of marijuana for $180 in Centennial Park when he was shot. He later died.

In the court case Martinez previously sought evidence to be thrown out before trial when he filed a motion to suppress statements he gave to law enforcement after he was arrested.

Martinez said he did not knowingly and intelligently waive his Miranda rights, saying information he gave to investigators was not voluntary. In May, both teens attempted to move his case to juvenile court but was denied.

The teens were arrested in Grand Island on Oct. 12, 2018, after the North Platte Police Department received a tip from the Hall County Attorney’s Office. Now, both are scheduled to be sentenced on December 18.
