Northeast Nebraska has added another monument to the importance of area vets.

Dozens of residents gathered in Bloomfield on Sunday to dedicate the Knox County town's new veterans memorial.

“It’s wonderful,” said Bloomfield native and veteran Robert Hoffman, who showed his emotion at the unveiling. “This is my hometown…It means quite a bit. That’s all I can say.”

The memorial features walls with over 1,400 names of veterans from Bloomfield along with a statue of a kneeling soldier.

The memorial is the brain child of Joe Skrivan of Bloomfield. Skrivan teamed up with the American Legion Riders of Bloomfield to help raise the money for the memorial.
