Fairbury Public Schools providing free breakfast, lunch for fall semester

FAIRBURY, NE — Students at one southeast Nebraska school district won’t be paying for breakfast or lunch for at least the rest of the semester.

Fairbury Public Schools announced the plan last week. Superintended Stephen Grizzle says free breakfast and lunch will be offered through December. It was made possible by the Department of Agriculture extending the district’s authorization for the Summer Food Service Program.

Grizzle says all students are eligible for the meals regardless of eligibility. He encourages those eligible for free/reduced meals to send in their applications this semester so they can receive the discounts starting in January.

The program covers complete meals. A la carte items and extras will still be charged at the normal rate.
