PIERCE COUNTY -- It’s September 12th, and people are heading out to a lot in Pierce County to get their purchased items from Richard Schulz’s collection antique automobiles.

“There are some panel vehicles here that flip my trigger and a ’55 Merc that flipped my trigger, so figured I’d come out and check it out and see what’s here,”  said Dennis Mitchell of Norfolk.

It’s a veritable feeding frenzy of car enthusiasts and collectors requisitioning some rare rides.

“I was surprised. There are a lot of people here, there’s a great turnout. It’s unique to have something like this around Norfolk,” he said.

The auction event even doubles as a get together for locals and friends of Schulz.

“They’ve always known that he’s had something back in them trees. They’ve tried to buy it for years and never could get it bought, but they got it bought today,” said Joe Aschoff, owner of the Aschoff Auction Company managing the sale of the Schulz’s vehicles.

Aschoff was the one who finally coaxed Schulz to put his decades-old car collection on the lot.

The auction was set up in months, and sold out in hours.

“These car guys, they’re quite the enthusiasts,” Aschoff said. “It was quite an experience just getting these cars pulled out. I personally drove the telehandler and pulled every one of these cars out here.”

“I learned a lot. It was a learning experience for us, and we hope we’ll get another chance to do it again for someone else.”

Richard Schulz’s family has been helping him collected his pieces all throughout the midwest.

He lets them go with a heavy heart… but he’ll be keeping at least 20 vehicles.

“I got six children. So it will be divided up no problem,” Schulz said.
