SIDNEY - The Cozad Haymakers are 3-0 for the first time since 2014 after earning another impressive win over Sidney Friday night.
The Haymakers shutout the Red Raiders 47-0, and have now outscored their opponents 115-7 this season. The victory also marks the first time Cozad has shutout back-to-back opponents since 2013.
While all of Cozad's touchdowns came on the ground in week two, the Haymakers were able to score in a variety of ways against the Red Raiders. Jacob Weatherly and Nolan Wetovick each had two rushing touchdowns, Wetovick threw for a score, Tag Sassali ran in a touchdown, and Jacob Engel returned an interception for a touchdown in the second quarter.
The Cozad defense also put together another standout performance, forcing four turnovers and limiting the Red Raiders at every turn. Nathan and Jacob Engel each had interceptions, while Weatherly and Gunnar Armagost recovered fumbles that lead to Cozad touchdowns.
Cozad returns home next week for its toughest test of the season, as the Haymakers will attempt to improve to 4-0 against Adams Central. Sidney falls to 1-2 with the loss, and will hope to bounce back next week on the road against Holdrege.
