SIDNEY, NE - Bass Pro and Cabela's says they found no evidence to support a claim made in a Facebook post that a man was asked to take off a hat in support of President Donald Trump while shopping in the Sidney Cabela's retail store.

Bass Pro Group Director of Communications Jack Wlezien tells News Channel Nebraska after the company was made aware of the post, the company investigated the matter.

He says they spoke to employees and management at the store. They also reviewed security footage.

Wlezien says the company also tracked down contact information for the person whose account the original post came from.

According to Wlezien, the person said they were aware of the post, but told the company he did not write the post and he never experienced that in the store.

"We cannot find any evidence the incident took place as described," Wlezien said in the statement.

According to Wlezien, Cabela's has no restrictions on attire unless it is deemed inappropriate for a family atmosphere. He says customers are welcome to show support for any political candidate.

A Facebook post made the rounds on social media over the weekend, claiming a man had been asked to take off the hat he was wearing in support of Trump because it offended an employee.
