Columbus man accused of strangling girlfriend, terroristic threats
COLUMBUS - Columbus police took a man to jail for assault and strangulation.
Police said on Sunday, officers dispatched to the 1400 block of 15th Street on a call of a woman screaming that someone was trying to kill her.
CPD said when they arrived, the woman told them she and her boyfriend, 35-year-old Andrew McCord, had been arguing, and that when she walked away, he followed her in his pickup.
She told police McCord eventually got out, threw her to the ground and strangled her until she passed out. The woman told police when she came to, McCord dragged her into his pickup, punched her and threatened to kill her. She said she jumped out of the vehicle and ran away.
A CPD spokesman said when officers later met up with McCord at his home, they did a field sobriety test on him after smelling alcohol.
They arrested him on suspicion of domestic assault, assault by strangulation, terroristic threats and DUI.
He is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 9.
