NORFOLK, NE -- Norfolk Police Department celebrated two new officers starting their careers. Officer Jacob Hakari and officer Hayden Johnson finished a seven week training period to prepare for their new careers.

"I felt the need to be the change I saw in my community," said Hakari. "I have a lot of love and care and I thought police work would allow me to showcase that."

The officers swore in amid a time of unrest between citizens and police force across the country. Protesting started up again after officers in Wisconsin are seen shooting Jacob Blake seven times in the back.

"There is always challenges, and there is always change. What is happening now days is sad, in a lot of ways, across the board. I want to be someone that anybody can come to regardless of race, religion, sex, or age," said Hakari.

Despite the challenges these new officers will face they believe their country, and the community they serve will rise up.

"I want those I worked with and those I worked with in the community how much I smiled and how much I cared," Harkari said. "I think that we are a nation that despite fighting we can unite together so quickly. I really appreciate that and I think that the future holds great things. not that they wont be trying, they will be trying times, but I see great things. "
