Cow Births Triplets
HOSKINS, NE -- Cow 836 has some magic genetics. According to her owner Kita Andersen she has birthed four sets of twins, and only once given birth to a single calf.
"On July 27th my husband, Bob, went to check on the cows and asked me to come out because he had to show me something. She then had three calves, which was quite a surprise," Andersen said.
It only occurs once every 100,000 bovine births, and typically not this late in the year. Cow 836 did not produce a calf in the fall, but due to the decreased cattle prices Andersen decided to keep her around and hope she gained value. Then she had triplets.
"There names are Larry, Curly, and Mo, because my husband is a Three Stooges fan," she said. "The little heifer is the best eater. She will eat hay as young as she is. The young bull, Curly, he will often have manure on his head because he sucks from behind and if his timing is not right he gets it. And the other bull is the least likely to let me pet him or mess with him. He is a little more shy."
The Andersen family farm in Hoskins has been blessed as all three calves are happy, healthy and continue to amaze.
