FAIRBURY, NE — A Fairbury man will spend nearly a year behind bars after reaching a plea deal in an assault case.

38-year-old Dain Zabokrtsky was sentenced to 360 days in jail for third-degree assault on Thursday in Jefferson County District Court.

Zabokrtsky originally faced a felony weapons charge, terroristic threats, false imprisonment and a different assault charge. The first three charges were dismissed and Zabokrtsky pleaded no contest to the amended assault charge in the plea deal.

The charges stem from an incident in July 2019. Court documents say the victim told police that Zabokrtsky locked her in a house. She said he pinned her down and threatened to kill himself if she left.

The victim was granted a protection order after the original charges were filed. Zabokrtsky was charged with violating the protection order in April. He pleaded no contest to that charge and faces sentencing on Wednesday.
