BEATRICE – The Beatrice Public Schools first-time Business Friend of the Month Award goes to Beatrice Community Hospital.
The school board and administration recently created the award to honor those businesses that help the district and its students and staff through volunteer and financial contributions.

Superintendent Jason Alexander says the hospital has been a key consulting partner through the coronavirus planning for the new school year.
The local hospital was also recognized for its contributions to care of athletes, job career shadowing for students and financial contributions to school projects.
The hospital honor was accepted by school board member Eric Trusty, who is the Senior Executive for Clinic Services, at BCH.

The Board of Education presented their Employee of the Month Honor, to Dawn Holthus, the district’s Nutrition Program Supervisor. Assistant Superintendent, Dr. Jackie Nielsen described the breakfast and lunch staff, teachers and volunteers as superheroes, during the drive to provide students with meals each week during a pandemic-altered schedule that kept students away from traditional lunch programs in school buildings.

The nutrition department has also been working this summer to plan for pre-packaged meals students will receive while social distancing is observed in local schools.

Efforts were extensive in the spring and summer to provide breakfast and lunch for school students who could not attend classes within buildings, because of the pandemic.
