Westco Bluffs 12U in Cal Ripken State Championship with Win over Alliance
The top-seeded Westco Bluffs 12U baseball team had an answer for everything that the Alliance All-Stars threw at them on Saturday, to advance to Sunday’s championship game of the Cal Ripken State Baseball Tournament with a 13-3 win at Kiwanis Field in Sidney.
Westco Bluffs used eight hits to build a 6-0 lead through the first three innings. Espen Lanik gave Alliance their first base-runner with a lead-off double in the top of the fourth inning. Tony Escamilla followed with an RBI single to left field to put Alliance on the board. Josh Aguallo then blasted a two-run homerun over the left field fence to cut the Westco Bluffs’ lead in half at 6-3.
Westco Bluffs responded with five runs on four hits in the bottom of the fourth inning to squelch the Alliance rally and advance to Sunday’s championship.
Nate Kelley, Oliver Carpenter and Ryan Hinman each pitched 1? innings combining to hold Alliance to three runs on five hits while striking out ten and not issuing just one walk in the game.
Westco Bluffs 12U faces Sidney Raider 12U on Sunday in the Cal Ripken State Tournament championship game. Coverage on NCN TV begins at 4:00 p.m.
