The sign outside says June 16th, but the Elkhorn Valley Museum will be making its return the day after.

“It’s been a good three months, and we’re ready to have people back in the doors, but safely,” said Ashley Brown, Executive Director for Elkhorn Valley Museum. “We are operating on a part-time basis. It will be Wednesdays and Fridays, from 11 am to 4 pm."

Occupancy will be kept to 20 people at a time, and museum personnel strongly urge visitors to call in before arriving.

“We do ask that everyone wear a face mask. We do have disposable ones available at the door as well as hand sanitizer.”

To punctuate their return, the museum is offering memberships at a lower rate, among other novelties.

“We are offering five dollars off new memberships, which is pretty exciting,” Brown said. “We are also starting our History in the Making initiative.”

During the downtime, museum personnel were cleaning out needless items and reorganizing the displays.

“It’s been accumulating for about 20 years, so it’s quite a bit,” said Austin Truecks, an intern working at the museum, “but it’s not too bad. It’s a satisfying ordeal.”

“The most difficult part is moving very large filing cabinets.”

And on top of that, they have created some new attractions.

“We’ve got some new displays, we’ve got some traveling exhibits, and a new permanent military exhibit that was recently put together,” Truecks said.

The Elkhorn Valley Museum is ready to bring some history back to the town of Norfolk, and to also let people make some history of their own.
