YORK - To the excitement of many locals the York Aquatic Center will be opening next week.
The city made the official announcement today that the aquatic center will begin operating with a max capacity of 175 patrons starting on Monday, June 15.
"This is what makes the pool so much more challenging this year. Because we're really like a smooth sailing ship every other year. We know exactly what we're doing and when to do it," Director of Parks and Recreation Cheree Folts explained. "Right now, with this year, everything has changed.
To keep the aquatic center safe there will be three 90-minute sessions every day. Those time slots are from 1 to 2:30 PM, 3 to 4:30 PM, and 5 to 6:30 PM. The sessions can be signed up for 24 hours in advance.
"In between those 30 minutes the staff will then go and sanitize the whole entire place to get it safe for the next group," Folts added.
When reserving spots there is a maximum of six per group, and Folts says if a session isn't filled up by call-ahead reservations they will then accept walk-ups.
"We're excited just to open, even if it's going to be with a couple of modifications. I think the public will appreciate what we're doing and support us moving forward."
The pool will be open from 1 to 6:30 PM seven days a week.
