NORTH PLATTE, NEB. (KNOP)- Hundreds of people from all over the state of Nebraska peacefully marched through the streets of North Platte as apart of the Black Lives Matter movement.

Protests have swept the nation since the murder of George Floyd at the end of last month. While some protests have turned violent, Sunday's march in North Platte was peaceful, which is exactly what organizer of the protest, Rob Mitchell, was hoping for.

"Our main focus is to bring this community together, there's so many walks of life here," Mitchell said.

Many of the participants brought homemade signs. One local business owner created 50 signs of her own to hand out to marchers.

"We just wanted to to do something that was positive and we could help out today with this peace walk," said Judy Pederson, the owner of Pro Printing and Graphics.

Rob Mitchell was pleased with the way the event unfolded and was happy to see the way the community has come together.

"It's just simply a beautiful thing to see, to see everybody coming out and supporting this cause. I'm actually proud to be apart of this community," said Mitchell.
