BEATRICE – For a second day, a group of “Black Lives Matter” protesters gathered near the Gage County Courthouse in Beatrice, to show their support for equality.

Danni Harder, of Beatrice was among a small group that began their demonstration during the late afternoon.
"We've gotten a lot of, I assume....positive honks...somebody did drive by and said "get a job at us"...that's the only negative response I've seen.....I've only been her ten minutes or so.....I just want people to understand that we're just trying to promote equality...we just want people to be treated the same, no matter the color of their skin".

Police vehicles were nearby with officers monitoring the protest, at the corner of 6th and Lincoln.

Harder, who was not at Thursday night's gathering, said of the officers, "They've also been putting in some positive honks for us, as well, so that's really uplifting to know that they're here with us".

Thursday night, police cited a Beatrice man after he engaged in a verbal spat with a 17-year-old protester, then got out of his vehicle and confronted the protester. The man was ticketed for misdemeanor assault. Harder says the group planned to demonstrate Friday, until about sundown. She said there is a Facebook group organized now, for the protest….and more were anticipated to come to the protest, to show support for equality.
