Council OK's Possible Curfew Extension

Somewhat reluctantly the Omaha City Council has given Mayor Jean Stothert the green light to extend a city-wide curfew if she decides more time is needed.
With four days of protests and over 300 arrests on the books, the council voted 5-to-1 in favor of a possible extension of the emergency order which began Sunday and ends tomorrow.
The curfew forces people off the streets from 8pm until 6 o'clock the next morning.
Several councilmen complained they were kept in the dark as Stothert initiated the curfew.
Council President Chris Jerram, the lone vote against any extension, said the ability to shut down free speech and freedom of assembly is a major concern.
Stothert is expected to decide by early Wednesday afternoon whether or not the curfew will continue.
