Minor injuries in rollover accident Thursday
Two females were transported to Great Plains Health after a rollover accident on Highway 83 just south of North Platte Thursday afternoon.
Sergeant Nick Jones processed the scene and has not released official cause of accident, but he did confirm that a car hit the back of a semi tanker after leaving the intersection by Prairie Mart.
Troy Hill of Hill Petroleum told News 2 that his driver was not injured, and that the driver of the tanker reported to authorities that the car missed the stop sign at the intersection and hit the rear of the trailer.
Hill said the fire that was put out from the trailer was caused by the impact to the rear of the trailer. The car hit a small tank on the back of the truck that was filled with diesel fuel additive. Hill said the integrity of the trailer "was not breached."
Sergeant Jones said, "We are fortunate there were no serious injuries today. We are very fortunate."
Hill said he was surprised no one was killed, and grateful.
Sergeant Jones said, "We want to remind everyone as we start to travel more this summer, make sure we are wearing our seat belts. Slow down and be observant as we travel on these roadways."
