Sidney movie theatre to reopen June 1

SIDNEY - "Mark your calendars. We are opening."
That's what a post on the Fox Theatre's Facebook Page said Friday night.
Owners, John and Kim Phillips, announced they will reopen the two-screen, all-digital Sidney theatre on June 1. They haven't been able to show movies since early April due to Directed Health Measures from Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts dealing with the COVID-19 virus.
The theatre, which employs 10 people, has been offering curbside concessions and hot dog meals while the restrictions were in place. Curbside concessions will continue nightly from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
On Thursday, Ricketts announced an easing on restrictions. Places like indoor and outdoor arenas, stadiums, tracks, theaters, zoos, pools, fairgrounds, libraries and other similar venues will be allowed to host 25 people, or 25-percent of the venue's occupancy up to 3,000 people, whichever is greater. Groups inside these venues will be limited to six people, with 6 feet between groups.
Beginning June 1, Fox Theatre will show "Trolls: World Tour" and "Bloodshot." Both movies begin at 7 p.m. nightly and there will be matinees on Saturday and Sunday at 4 p.m.
The Fox Theatre, located at 1120 Illinois St., originally opened as a single-screen 950-seat theatre on October 16th, 1951. John Phillips has owned the theatre since 1987.
